The EMIG (European Mucosal Immunology Group) was founded in 1998 by european members of the international "Society for Mucosal Immunology" (SMI). It was created with the purpose of bringing together european medical and scientific expertise on mucosal immunity, including inflammation, allergy, vaccination and immune tolerance. EMIG also aims at reinforcing international collaborations, with the prospect of developing a european network of excellence.

EMIG meetings have previously been held in London, Goteborg and Berlin, and it is a great pleasure to announce that the 2004 edition will be held in Lyon, France.
It will be organised jointly by SMI members from Paris, Nice and Lyon, and by a local organising committee.

This edition of EMIG will focus on :
- Commensal bacteria in mucosal immunity
- Dendritic cells in infection, inflammation and tolerance
- Regulatory T cells in the control of mucosal inflammation
- Novel routes and adjuvants for mucosal vaccines
- Mucosal Immunity against HIV Infection and Vaccination Strategies
